Foreign Teacher Experiences Liangzhu Culture via VR: Hangzhou's Tech Boosts Cultural Understanding
Fodil Selmouni, a Canadian who moved to Hangzhou in 2016 and now teaches English at the Tourism College of Zhejiang, visited the Park of the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City on May 5. He was drawn to the park’s innovative use of 5G and virtual reality (VR) technologies to showcase ancient culture.
His worries quickly faded after putting on VR goggles. The technology immersed him in 12 vivid scenarios of Liangzhu ancestors’ daily life—including fishing, farming, lumbering, and hunting—letting him "step into" the ancient civilization without language barriers.
Beyond the Liangzhu park, Selmouni also shared his experience at a local hotel equipped with smart services: a smart receptionist system let him book rooms and complete check-in/check-out in just 30 seconds, while a delivery robot fetched take-out or parcels from the lobby to his room.
