Chun'an County: Hangzhou's Only 5A-Level Scenic City & Its Top Attractions

Recently, Chun'an County was awarded as one of Zhejiang Province's first batch of 5A-level scenic cities—and the only one in Hangzhou to receive this honor. A "scenic city" refers to a county (city, district) with a livable, work-friendly, and tourist-friendly environment, profound culture, diverse leisure activities, complete public facilities, and strong governance capacity. It is currently Zhejiang's most authoritative indicator for evaluating regional tourism development.

Qiandao Lake Scenic Area 千岛湖风景区

As one of China's first national key scenic areas and a top-tier 5A national scenic area, Qiandao Lake is a dazzling pearl on the "Hangzhou – Qiandao Lake – Mt. Huang" premium tourism route. It is renowned for its lush mountains, crystal-clear water, scattered islands, and ever-changing scenery, earning it the title of "China's Most Beautiful Lake."

Tip: Take a cruise to explore the lake's 1,078 islands; the best viewing season is spring (March-May) for blooming flowers and autumn (September-November) for clear skies.

Stone Forest 千岛湖石林景区

Famous for its sense of security, mystery, uniqueness, and grandeur, Qiandao Lake Stone Forest boasts hundreds of distinctive landscapes. The peaks and rocks are oddly shaped, resembling humans, objects, birds, or beasts—creating a "natural stone sculpture gallery."

Wenyuan Lion City 文渊狮城

A revived "underwater ancient city," Wenyuan Lion City features a 666-meter-long ancient commercial street, traditional bazaars, and restored ancient archways. Xiajiang Village 下姜村

Known as "Elegant Villa and Gorge Stream (Ya Shu Xia Jian)," Xiajiang Village was founded 800 years ago with the original vision of "green waters and lush mountains." It is the filming location of the Chinese TV series The Place Where Our Dream Begins, which tells the story of young people returning to the countryside to build an ecological village.

Established in 2017, this scenic area is based on the Memorial Hall of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army Northern Anti-Japanese Advance Troops (corrected from "Red Character"). It explores and preserves red cultural resources, promoting revolutionary heritage and developing red tourism—now a key red tourism destination in Chun'an.
