Which pathway fits
Employment
4 consecutive years of work in China, and at least 6 months actually in China each year.在中国连续工作满 4 年，每年实际居住不少于 6 个月。
Path 2Doctoral degree
A doctorate or higher, and you are already working in China. Book the counter in advance.博士研究生以上学历，且已在中国境内工作。需提前窗口预约。
Path 3Family reunion
Married 5 years to a Chinese citizen or a foreigner who already holds permanent residence. Both of you have lived in China for 5 years, at least 9 months each year.与中国公民或已取得永居的外籍人士结婚满 5 年，双方在中国连续居住满 5 年且每年不少于 9 个月。

Path 1 · Employment permanent residence
基本条件：在中国连续工作满 4 年，每年实际居住时间不少于 6 个月。

Employment certificate from your current employer. It must state your position or professional title.

Proof of 4 consecutive years of work in China: foreigner’s work permit, foreign expert certificate, and the filing records kept by the human-resources and foreign-expert departments.
在中国连续工作满 4 年的证明：外国人工作许可证、外国专家证、人社和外专部门出具的办证记录等。

Your valid foreign passport, plus work-type residence permits covering those 4 consecutive years. Each permit should have at least 6 months of validity.

Individual income-tax payment certificates for 4 consecutive years, issued by the tax authority. Tax paid should be at least 20% of your annual wage income.
连续 4 年个人所得税缴纳证明（税务部门出具，不低于工资性年收入标准的 20%）。

Annual wage-income certificates for 4 consecutive years, issued by your current employer. Income should be at least six times the 2023 average employee wage, about RMB 520,000 a year.

Your employer’s business license, and the company’s annual reports for the last 4 years, printed from the National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System.

Original no-criminal-record certificate issued by a national-level authority in your country, legalized by an Apostille or by a Chinese embassy or consulate, plus a Chinese translation. Valid for 6 months from the issue date. 6 months
国家级别政府部门出具、且经海牙或中国驻外使领馆认证的无犯罪记录证明原件及中文翻译件，开具后有效期 6 个月。
- If you lived continuously in a third country for two years, also file that country’s no-criminal-record certificate and its authentication.第三国连续居住满两年，需提交该国无犯罪记录及认证。

- Written application with a detailed CV (study, work, and life), family situation, and work performance.本人书面申请，含个人详细简历、家庭情况、工作表现等。
- Six 2-inch color photos, bareheaded, white background. On-site photos are recommended.2 寸白底彩色免冠照片 6 张（建议现场拍摄）。
- Health certificate from the entry-exit inspection and quarantine department. Address: No. 2 Wensan Road. Tel: 87852407, 87852408. Valid 6 months. The sheet recommends filing this later, so it does not expire before submission.身体健康证明，地址文三路 2 号，有效期 6 个月，建议后补。
Path 2 · Doctoral degree, employment-based
基本条件：具有博士研究生以上学历，并在中国境内工作。需提前窗口预约。

Path 3 · Family reunion
基本条件：与中国公民或具有永久居留资格的外国人结婚满 5 年，夫妻双方在中国连续居住满 5 年且每年不少于 9 个月。

Valid foreign passport, residence permit with at least 6 months of validity, and the original marriage certificate. A marriage certificate issued abroad must be authenticated by a Chinese embassy or consulate and translated into Chinese. The authentication is valid for 6 months. 6 months

Spouse’s identity papers.
- Chinese spouse: original ID card and household register (hukou). Marital status on the hukou must read “married”.配偶为中国公民的，提供身份证和户口本原件，婚姻状况应为“已婚”。
- Foreign spouse who already has permanent residence: valid passport and permanent-resident ID.配偶为取得永居的外国人，提供有效护照和永久居民身份证。

Housing, and income if you both work.
- Property certificate in your name or your spouse’s name (title deed, purchase contract, and similar), or a notarized lease of at least one year counted from the application date.房产证、房屋买卖合同等产权证明，或经公证的自申请之日起租期 1 年以上的房屋租赁合同。
- If the home belongs to your spouse, add a notarized statement that your spouse will provide housing for you.房产为配偶所有时，出具经公证的其愿意为申请人提供住房保障的声明。
- If both spouses work, also file income certificates and tax-payment records.夫妻双方有工作的，同时提交收入证明及纳税证明。

A notarized bank-deposit certificate of RMB 300,000. The certificate must show the characters “冻结” (frozen), and the funds must stay frozen for at least 6 months. If the account is your spouse’s or a guarantor’s, add a notarized statement that they will support your living expenses.
经公证的银行存款证明（30 万，显示“冻结”二字，冻结 6 个月以上）。证明为配偶或被投靠人所有的，同时出具经公证的其愿意为申请人提供生活保障的声明。

What expires, and what to leave until later
Valid for 6 months
- No-criminal-record certificate and its authentication or Apostille.
- Marriage-certificate authentication, on the family-reunion route.
- Health certificate.
- Residence permit itself should still have at least 6 months left when you apply.
Do these later
The health certificate is marked “obtain later” on the employment and doctoral lists, because a certificate taken too early will expire before the file is complete.
任职和博士清单都写明体检“建议后补”。材料还没齐时不要先去做。
